The U.S. Must Stand Up to China on Taiwan
The Republic of China in Taiwan was founded by Chinese exiles who fled the communist regime. While mainland China is governed by a repressive communist cabal, Taiwan is a thriving democracy and technology powerhouse.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has vowed to make Taiwan a part of the People’s Republic of China by any means necessary, including by force. Military experts think China is only a few years away from having a military powerful enough that it could successfully invade and occupy Taiwan.
How It Affects Us:
Taiwan is home to the most sophisticated semiconductor factories in the world. A communist takeover of Taiwan would destroy a thriving free people, capture critical technologies, and devastate our supply chains. It would be a strategic disaster for the United States.
What Kevin Will Do About It:
China is not a superpower yet. We still have time to counter their aggression and deter an invasion. In Congress, I will work to:
- Authorize sufficient weapons and military assistance to Taiwan to counter the Chinese threat.
- Recognize the Republic of China as independent nation- if the people of Taiwan so desire.
- Use all appropriate tools of American power, including the U.S. military, to deter China and defend Taiwan against attack.
- Modernize the U.S. military to focus on the specific threats from the Chinese Communist Party.
