Soap and Hope
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I spent Saturday afternoon at Bucky Boyle Park in Allentown, where dozens of children and families played games, hunted Easter Eggs, and enjoyed the beautiful weather.
One of the sponsors was S & E Natural Soaps, LLC, a family-owned business that makes handmade skincare products right here in the Lehigh Valley. Besides supporting their own family, Tamiko and her husband Curtis use their profits to help local community organizations and working families in the West African nation of Ghana, which supplies raw materials for their soaps and moisturizers. It’s a classic American success story, and it was a pleasure talking to them about their hopes and dreams for their business and their family.
When I’m out in the community, I meet people from all political persuasions. I love to get into friendly debates about policy and often try to change people’s minds. Occasionally, I do, and sometimes, they change my mind.
But regardless of policy differences, I’ve noticed that almost everyone wants the same things from their elected officials: authenticity and experience. And you can’t buy that with all the campaign donations in the world.
Authenticity is just being yourself. I’m comfortable with who I am and don’t pretend to be somebody I’m not. What you see is what you get.
Experience is trial by fire. I’ve spent 28 years in a military uniform providing safe communities, 19 years in business creating good jobs, and 24 years of marriage raising three sons. It wasn’t always easy. But when things get hard in Washington, I won’t have to rely on young staffers or congressional bosses to tell me what to do. I’ll be able to draw upon my own real-life experiences to make wise decisions that put the people of Pennsylvania’s 7th District first.
I don’t know if Tamiko and Curtis are registered Republican, Democrat, or Independent. I didn’t ask. But I do know they love God, Family, and Country. And they know I do too.
Remember, it’s not just GOP voters that value authentic candidates with relevant experience. It’s all voters. And that’s why, with your support, I’m going to win this election.
