Let’s Help our Small Businesses Grow
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Last weekend, I had the pleasure of introducing Laura and Joel Brady at the grand opening of their new art studio and gallery in Allentown. The Laura Brady Gallery is a beautiful place, full of her paintings of nature, adding to the robust arts and culture scene that keeps getting better in the greater Lehigh Valley.
For Laura and Joel, the gallery is more than an artistic endeavor. It’s also a business. Our community is fortunate that they decided to start and grow their business here instead of somewhere else.
Being a small business owner is hard, and taking the first step can be daunting. I remember when my wife Susan and I started our own business 18 years ago. I worried that if I made a mistake, I might lose our house. Together, Susan and I worked long hours and overcame significant obstacles to build a thriving business. It was a rollercoaster ride, but it was worth it.
Today, it’s much harder to succeed. That’s because Joe Biden and Susan Wild have delivered persistent inflation, stifling regulations, and punishing interest rates, which are suffocating the small business sector. The Russell 2000, America’s leading index of small public companies, is down 11% since July.
To turn this around, we need a leadership change in Washington. We must cut wasteful spending to tame inflation, reduce red tape to unleash entrepreneurs, and stop forcing small business owners to be the nation’s piggybank for progressive priorities.
I’m confident that Laura and Joel will succeed because they are faithful and smart and provide wonderful paintings that people enjoy. Let’s help them and other entrepreneurs spend less time filling out forms, hedging their bets, and paying their taxes, and more time providing great products to their customers.
