Democrats Are Missing the Mark on the “Pursuit of Happiness”

Senator Joe Manchin did the right thing by pulling the plug on President Biden’s $2 trillion “Build Back Better” plan, but it’s far too early to declare victory. He could simply change his mind, and with Democrats in control of both the House and the Senate, they will just keep repackaging these misguided policies until they get their way. That’s why we must defeat Susan Wild and restore Republican control of Congress.

Have you noticed that all these programs, regardless of what they are called or how they are presented, always involve giving away free stuff? This year alone, Washington Democrats offered $5 trillion in free healthcare, free childcare, free Internet, free community college, free preschool, free cash, and the list goes on and on.

The Democrats seem to believe that free goods and services are the key to happiness. Or, in the least, that they can buy votes with them. The truth is, none of these things are free- someone always is paying for them- and none of this spending is sustainable.

It’s not making Americans any happier either. Instead, Democratic policies are causing runaway inflation, supply shortages, and anxiety about our future.

They’re kind of missing the point about the “Pursuit of Happiness.”

Here’s a better idea. Let’s help people get good jobs so they aren’t dependent upon the government.

We can start by repealing overbearing regulations so small businesses can hire workers and grow their companies.

We can get federal spending under control to help reduce the inflationary price increases that are threatening our standard of living.

And we can finally get tough on China so American workers aren’t competing against a country that cheats, steals, and lies.

The government doesn’t create prosperity, but it can cultivate the conditions that allow entrepreneurs to create good jobs. And good jobs are about a lot more than the wages people earn and the material things those wages can buy.

When people have good jobs, they have dignity, self-sufficiency, and hope for a better life. That’s what our Founders meant by the Pursuit of Happiness. And that’s why we must Keep America Free.

God Bless,
