China is the Worst Polluter in the World

One of the most damaging policies being pushed by progressives today is their attempted takeover of the American energy industry. American consumers want to protect the environment and already are transitioning towards clean energy sources. But that’s not good enough for progressives, who are forcing Americans to abandon traditional fuels prematurely and buy renewable materials that aren’t yet ready for mass consumption. Worse, most of the renewables are made in China, which uses dirty energy and dirty factories to make “clean” renewables exported to the United States. It’s a farce.

The Issue:

China is the worst polluter in the world. They continue to build dirty power plants across China and in the developing world. They are destroying their own environment by the irresponsible mining of rare earth metals. They spew air and water pollution from their factories. They are destroying the fragile waters of the South China Sea by dredging and building new islands for military purposes. And they are notorious for degrading sensitive fisheries, trading illicit and endangered animal parts, and generally wreaking havoc on the environment. And for progressives concerned about global climate change, they should know that China emits more carbon than all the other developed nations combined (here).

How It Affects Us:

U.S. manufacturers use clean energy in safe factories with strict emissions rules and fair labor practices. Chinese manufacturers can use dirty energy in unsafe factories with loose emissions rules and unfair labor practices. Combine that with Chinese currency manipulation and government subsidies, it’s no wonder why American companies are at a disadvantage. And by they way, China is destroying the environment.

What Kevin Will Do About It:

I want to expose the hypocrisy of progressives who wail about environmental protection while they unwittingly make things worse by encouraging dirty manufacturing in China. In Congress, I will work to:

  • Stop incentivizing the purchase of Chinese-produced renewable energy materials.
  • Penalize Chinese products manufactured with dirty energy and lax environmental regulations.
  • Sanction companies involved with maritime destruction in the South China Sea and overfishing in disputed waters around the world.
  • Increase penalties for the illicit trade of environmentally sensitive plants and animal parts.
  • Require Chinese ports to increase protections against the export of invasive species.
