Chickens, Eggs, and Politics

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I woke up this morning, let the chickens out of their coop, and said goodbye to my wife Susan. Then I cooked bacon and eggs for my son Jake, answered business emails, and delivered a Zoom presentation on cybersecurity. When that was over, I logged into my military account, signed promotion orders, and reviewed our upcoming training schedule.

In between, I called Ryan Mackenzie and congratulated him on his win. As promised, I offered him my endorsement. I also said I’d encourage my volunteers to support him. It’s important that we defeat Susan Wild this November, flip this congressional seat, and keep our Republican Majority.

This isn’t the outcome I intended. When I went to our post-election reception last evening, I hadn’t even considered a concession speech. I was that confident I was going to win.

But I didn’t. I understand chickens and eggs, my wife and sons, technology and cybersecurity, business and military affairs. But I still don’t understand politics. Perhaps I never will.

I’ve heard from volunteers and supporters who are upset and saddened by the results. Please don’t be discouraged. Our hope is not in this world (Heb 6:19).

I ran this race as if the survival of our nation depended upon me winning. And I offered this campaign and my community all the time, talent, and treasure I had to give.

But I also understand the limits of human endeavor (Pro 19:21), and that all authority comes from God (Rom 13:1). And because I trust in the will of our Sovereign Lord, I’m completely at peace with the outcome of this election. I hope you are too.

After collecting almost 4,000 signatures to get me on the ballot, my good friend Tom quipped, “Imagine if we were telling 4,000 people about Jesus instead.” Indeed. Maybe this new network of campaign friends will become a vehicle to spread the Gospel across the greater Lehigh Valley and beyond. Stay tuned.

In running for office, I wanted to make my family proud, my hometown proud, my volunteers proud. But you know what happened instead. You made me proud. Thank you for demonstrating such love for your country, your community, and your neighbors.

Today, for the first time in months, I’ll be on my front porch to greet my wife Susan as she comes home from work. I’m looking forward to that.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as a candidate for Congress. I’m humbled by your support.

Keep America Free.
